I love to travel and one of the first impressions I got from Call Me By Your Name is that it was like a two-hour travel ad for the Lombardy region of Italy. I was just mesmerized by the filming locations. Also, after being inspired by many CMBYN fans traveling to Crema and Bergamo, I have pretty much finalized my own travel plans to visit Crema in May 2019. At first I wanted to also include Bergamo, but due to time constraints and vacation allotment from work, I only have 12 days (including 2 full travel days) I unfortunately won't be able to go up to Bergamo as I'm going to start off in Milan, then Crema, and then make my way to Venice, and then back to Milan (flying out of that airport). I have booked my hotels already, and will book my flight by December.
Have any of you been to Italy since CMBYN showed us the beauty of Italy? Are you planning a trip soon?Lombardy in Italy through the lens of 'CMBYN' - The Travel Magazine

Ironically, I went to Italy a few weeks ago, moved on to Spain, then watched CMBYN AFTER COMING BACK HOME....so I never got to equate Italy with CMBYN all the time I was there. LOL! I enjoyed it very much though. Despite the dirt, flies, mosquitoes, graffiti etc., Italy will always be Italy - beautiful, historic and very charming. Will definitely have to go back there again, and this time focus on somewhere in Northern Italy. Your itinerary sounds amazing. Have you been to Italy before?

So those pesky CMBYN flies bothered you in Italy too eh? LOL! I'm glad you enjoyed your trip there. Funny thing is that I have a pen pal who lives in Pavia, just South of Milan. We've been writing (yes, actual snail mail) to each other since 1997. I wanted to visit her while I was living in NYC back in 2001, but then 9/11 happened, I lost my job, etc. We're still writing to each other and I'll meet up with her while I'm in Milan. Before I head to Venice, I'm obligated to make a 2 day pit stop in Crema. It's such a small town, I don't need more than 2 days to just immerse myself in the ambiance of what CMBYN inspired. I look forward to sharing my experience with everyone here at CC.

Accidentally, we planned a travel to Milan, Como and Bergamo with my friends last year. We're going in September. In the meantime, I saw CMBYN, and I'd like to run away from by group for a day or half a day to visit Crema and Pandino. I don't know how, but I give a try. It's hard to find travel information to Pandino, so maybe I'll just visit Crema. Or next year I'll go back.

Wow, I think I should try somehow to catch up with them, although I have little time up to my journey.

So, this is the brief story of my journey to Crema. Perhaps, I mentioned above that we planned a journey to Milan, Lake Como (Lenno) and Bergamo with my friends last winter. Meanwhile I saw CMBYN, and absolutely loved it. In early summer I was searching for the locations of CMBYN just because of curiosity, and I realized that they’re not far from Milan. What a coincidence! When we specifyed and finalized our journey, I kept thinking of travelling to Crema and others locations by escaping from my mates and omitting some sightseeing in Milan. I couldn’t get this idea out of my mind, like an inner nessecity which I must have done. It was difficult to find a suitable day and search for public transport, but finally I did it! I knew I would fail to visit all the locations, I could get to only Pandino and Crema, perhaps Fontanile Quarantina (Elio’s spot). It wasn’t possible to get to Montodine and Moscazzano because of lacking time. Sirmione is too far from Milan. Bergamo was my group’s common object, I didn’t have to care about getting there separately. One of my friends was in my company, because he likes countryside. Bus information was available mostly in Italian, and bus routes were quite complicated compared to Hungarian routes (and I’m not in practice in travelling abroad), but google and translation helped a lot. Pandino was reachable only by bus, Crema by bus through Pandino or by train. Eventually I had to solve travelling problems there, luckily younger people spoke in English. Actually they had better verbal communication skills than mine They’re very helpful everywhere. Train lines were easier to find, trenit app is excellent. One of our train route was cancelled from Treviglio (changing station from Crema to Milan) without explanation. It’s strange, but nothing serious, we chose another line. At last we got to Pandino and Crema. Unluckily we’re forced to skip Fontanile Quarantina, although we had some time for it, but didn’t dare to intermit our train journey. My heart hurted and hurts now. In Pandino the local goverment and the library are literally in the 660-year-old Visconti Castle. Amazing! It’s a charming tiny town, the piazza is like in the movie although it was raining when we got there. There’s an information billboard near the war monument with this note: ’In 2016, the square was filmed in the award-winning film, „Call Me By Your Name” by Luca Guadagnino and „Fredo” – the affectionate name given by the people of Pandino to the bronze soldier – has now become a local tourist attraction.’ It’s so nice! In Crema we had tortelli cremaschi with peach soft drink for lunch It’s a tortelli with sweet filling, the most delicious tortelli I’ve ever eaten. It was a busy Friday in the life of Crema, with a lot of people wandering in the tiny Italian streets. Really charming, beautiful and calming place to visit or even live in. I dropped in a cosmetics’s shop (long story), where the shop-assistant talked to us a lot, she was nice and inquiring in a good way. In the shop-window of a bookshop we saw CMBYN BD, CD and vinyl. And maybe I found Luca’s house. We just took photos of the house, like of other places. Every minute of our trip is worth it! Simone, if you change your mind about Bergamo, it’s circa an hour trip from Crema by bus or by train. Half a day journey. It’s worth seeing once in a lifetime, very marvellous town. As for Last supper I recommend again like on twitter Ross King’s excellent book: Leonardo and the Last Supper. Reading the book I recognized that Leonardo would be one of the biggest fans of Timmy- As it’s a quite fast and short trip, I think I should go back next year, I have a 2 or 3 days trip in my mind (without Milan): Pandino, Crema, Fontanile Quarantina, Montodine, Moscazzano and Sirmione. Maybe I should visit Venice (an idea from Simone), too. I’ve never been there. The countryside is amazing in and of itself.

Teenca, thank you for sharing your lovely trip. I'll be traveling alone and on a tight schedule, so I won't be able to visit Bergamo. But I'll be in Milan, where I will definitely view Da Vinci's Last Supper (never thought I would be able to see it in real life). I'll then take the train to Crema, and I hope to visit Fontanile Quarantina, but if I can't swing by there, it's ok. I mostly just want to BE in Crema to experience the ambience of that little Italian town, and eat good food. Then I'll take train to Venice for a few days. I have always wanted to visit Venice, Italy. Here in California, there is a coastal community called Venice Beach and there is an expensive neighborhood that is designed after the Venice Canals. I'm really looking forward to my trip next May. I will definitely reach out to you with questions, if you don't mind.

My pleasure to share my trip. Thank you for reading it! Okay, Bergamo is definitely not an object. Fontanile Quarantina is easily accessible by train, just two stops from Crema. By the way, for Last Supper it's required to book and pay a ticket in advance 3 or 4 months before the visiting. One of my friends organized it for us, I'll ask her about the booking. Feel free to ask questions anytime
