I voted for 2.5 hours. As half of the book was shot, I think there is no need a 3 hours movie. We'll see!

Dune is going to be EPIC! So excited for it and seeing Timmy in a role that is totally different than anything he has done before. And a big budget movie based on such a popular sci-fi book with Denis directing (and the locations it was filmed at). Of course there will always be the haters (they are a bit annoying already, as if they just want it to fail), but there is huge buzz for this. Can't wait until we start getting bits and pieces (stills, teaser trailers, posters, etc.), maybe early next year?? Actually playing Prince Hal and Henry V in The King was excellent preparation for Dune. Paul Atreides is a young prince with the burden of taking over the throne and avenging his father's murder. Paul is always conflicted by his assumption of power; as Kwisatz Haderach he tries to see a future not clouded with destruction, but cannot avoid inciting the jihad. He comes to the same conclusions as King Henry about power. (The sword fighting training will also come in handy in Dune!)

BOUNDING INTO COMICS has already reported that Liet Kynes, a pivotal character, has been gender-swapped and death-altered in the Dune reboot!
Obviously Villeneuve is being given poetic license to create his own vision of Dune. So much for his original statement of intent to be "faithful" to the book!

I have enjoyed all of Denis' work so far, so I trust his judgement in taking some creative liberties to 'modernize' a 54 years old novel. Switching up a gender and diverting that character's death must have significant importance to Denis' vision of his adaptation of this book. We'll see what it looks like, but I'm still very, very excited.
Peter Jackson took creative liberties with the Lord of the Rings movies and those were still phenomenal successes and earned him a Best Director Oscars among the dozen the trilogies went on to win.

I have enjoyed his work too, yet the significance of these changes to Frank Herbert's subtext are significant.
Peter Jackson was quite faithful to the main arcs of all the characters in Lord of the Rings. (I did miss Tom Bombadil!).
The Two Towers was the most difficult of the books to adapt, yet he brilliantly interweaved the two sections to produce a coherent bridge between Fellowship of the Ring and Return of the King.

I do understand your concerns and it is valid. I just ask that you keep an open mind and let's watch the movie first before we disagree with his creative liberties. I think we'll enjoy his changes.

I AM looking forward to it. I think our boy is perfectly cast as Paul Atreides; he couldn't have had better preparation than playing Hal/King Henry. If the film comes even close to Arrival or Blade Runner 49 I will be ecstatic! Enjoy your trip to NYC.
