Oh you know he will. Surely Italy and near by countries after US tour, or whenever the book will be available there. Yep, I hope so. I don't think he'll visit Bp, but maybe a nearby city. I'll be very satisfied if he visits Vienna in Austria. It's reachable by train easily.

A bunch of LA CMBYN FB members are going. I am definitely going, as long as something doesn't come up between now and then. I have never seen Andre in person, so I would love to attend. Just need to make sure I have read the book by then as I don't want any spoilers and they are going to be EVERYWHERE!

So one of the CMBYN FB posters went to a special screening of CMBYN in London. On July 17 at the Soho Curzon Cinema in London, there will be a screening of Call Me By Your Name that will be followed by a Skype Q&A with Andre Aciman, who will be discussing Find Me. And most importantly, all the attendees will receive a free advance proof copy of Find Me.
Now the FB poster took pics of his book and it is legit. He said it does say it is a "proof" copy but still. I know they sometimes give advanced copies to reviewers, etc. But to give advanced copies to random fans, 3 months before release, there are going to be spoilers everywhere (and pirated copies??), I would imagine. Why would they do this?? Someone said to create buzz but still. I am hoping no spoilers come out, I will be annoyed if that happens. I figured when it came out in October I would need to read it in a few days, to avoid spoilers, but seems impossible not to get any when we have 3 months to go!!

Wow that sounds fantastic, but you best believe spoilers will be posted within 24 hours of the screening. People will screen cap the final pages, just to fuck with people and spoil it for everyone. I don't think this is smart. But it's publicity. There's NO way we can avoid spoilers due to this special event. Dang.

I get there will be spoilers but I wouldn't expect them to give advanced copies to a bunch of fans, 3 months before it is released to everyone else. I figured everyone would get it in October so I would have to avoid spoilers for a few days. Be impossible to avoid spoilers now, unfortunately. I think this is a totally stupid idea and I am quite disappointed about it but oh well. I've seen a few comments from people who seem to know about this industry and they say they have never heard of doing an advanced release to fans, 3 months early. Usually the advances are to critics/reviewers, a month or two before.
I've seen it on FB and Reddit today (no spoilers yet but give it 24 hours). I can avoid Reddit easily but this will all make its way to Twitter, I am sure. So I'm screwed, ha ha!

Yes, this is very disappointing, and the more I think about it, there won't be second movie. André, no offense to him, wants complete control of the narrative and direction of what happens with Find Me, which is a continuation of CMBYN. He's proud of the success of the first book and film, and he's got millions in the bank because of all this success. I just think that André wants to close out the Elio and Oliver chapter with a fun book tour and then get on with life. Give regular folk copies so they can spoil it for everyone else - some may even sell the book on E-bay. It's like he doesn't give a damn and insist on putting the cart before the horse*. I have never, ever heard of a hot author of a hot follow up book, give 300 FANS an advanced copy of the new follow up book, three months before it's available for purchase. If anything such books have been well guarded before they go on sale. Hell, does Luca even have a copy of it yet? Everything that has been said and done, including grouchy old man Ivory being sassy and rude about a sequel, doesn't bode well for a sequel movie. A 37 year old Elio cannot be played realistically by an actor who barely looks like a college freshman, even eight years from now.
*The expression cart before the horse is an idiom or proverb used to suggest something is done contrary to a conventional or culturally expected order or relationship. A cart is a vehicle which is ordinarily pulled by a horse, so to put the cart before the horse is an analogy for doing things in the wrong order.

It seems so weird to give the book to the fans 3 months before its publishing. It'll be very difficult to avoid spoilers during this long period.
In the meantime I checked the local publisher of Aciman's books, and 'Find me' can be pre-ordered and be published on Oct, 10. The Festival mentioned above is going to take place on Oct, 13-16, so we will be able to buy it at the Festival. Basically, prior to the U.S. publishing (Oct, 29.), but not long before.
Simone, thank you for the explanation of the idiom.

I just don't see any logic in this decision at all. Those 300 fans are happy but meanwhile, the rest of us are annoyed and it will get spoiled for us. I am sure some will end up on Ebay and you know parts of it will show up on Twitter, etc. I don't see how anyone would think this was a good idea??
If it is true that it takes place 20'ish years later (or at least parts of it do), no way Timmy can play a 37 year old Elio anytime soon. I mean in LW, there were scenes he looked 15!
I did see somewhere that Luca does have a copy - can't remember where though.

The more I think of this decision, the more I consider a very bad idea to give the book for some fans 3 months before publishing for everyone. Not only on Ebay, but also downloading version anywhere.

I concur with Tracy. In LW, Timmy straight up looked in the mid-teens.
But he's so adorable and beautiful. LOL!
Teenca, glad my explanation proved helpful. André and his publishing company are doing this ass backward, and they are doing it deliberately.

Yes, Timothee looks beautiful in LW. The first scene, he was quite stunning actually.
I asked the guy on FB who went, if it was all fans who were there and he said yes. He said they were all very big CMBYN fans but he hoped they didn't spoil it for everyone (wishful thinking). He was going to read it this weekend but wouldn't say anything which I believe him. It is the other 299 I worry about!!

SPOILERSGo to this link if you want to read some gentle spoilers raraadsel.tumblr.com/post/186418331978/find-meSPOILERSDON'T READ THIS FAR------- - - - - - Person said that the first 3/4 of the book is about Samuel and falling in love with some lady that the reader didn't trust. Tail end of book has Elio and Oliver getting together, but it was rushed and over before you could really savour it. So, Find Me is like Samuel in 75% of the book, and the crumbs about the boys finally getting together and having a son, Oliver Jr. This is not a movie Luca can make which will capture the magic of CMBYN. Just as I thought.

Based on this above Luca is free to make an own movie being independent of the book.
