How would you define "Oscar caliber performance"? The gold on Oscar was always suspect, but now it's truly tarnished. Outside of Hollywood, nobody really cares. George C. Scott had the right idea!!!
Emmy Awards were a more honest appreciation of an actor's work.

The Emmys aren't immune to the games, but now that a lot of A/B list movie stars are doing TV shows, networks are now putting big money into ad campaigns for these big stars. Movie star marquee names these days are bigger ratings bait than your average run of the mill 'tv star'. If you were to look at the Emmy winners list from say, 2003, it was 95% tv stars. Today, over half the winners are movie stars or well known film character actors. Every person on Big Little Lies is a MOVIE star, not a lowly regular TV star. So now, if it's too hard to get an Oscar (or if you already got one of those, now it's time to get an Emmy for your EGOT* goals), go on tv, kick ass in the role, and win an Emmy, the highest honor for TV, which has been making better movies and series than going to the theater.

Tracy, like I mentioned previously, Timmy has proven himself a great young actor, and people are simply anticipating yet another great performance and they just have him on their radar, sight unseen. Once they see the movie, they will either keep him on their consideration list, or remove him if he's good, but not Oscar level great. Also, there are at least 40 other performances of actors, Lead and Supporting, that people aren't even talking about yet, so it says a lot about the respect people have to Timmy to have him on their list months before anyone has even seen a trailer for The King. Right, it is based on the high regard for his acting, not anything to do with the actual movie yet. So hoping for a trailer soon!!

Sept 4th is a Wednesday, so yet again, sources from AW are not reliable (God I loathe that site!).
Not every film will be shown at the film festivals, and they don't need to either.

It was from this Chinese HFPA members Twitter account. I just saw it on Twitter (someone has re-tweeted it). I don't believe it until we get some official word.

It's hard to guess whether it's been postponed because it's not working and they need re-edits and reshoots (and have to wait for their star to wrap Dune) or because it's better than they anticipated and Netflix thinks it's Oscar material (maybe with a couple of tweaks).
I have a friend who worked on the shoot who was baffled by the fact nothing came out as he said the accent was perfect (he's english) and all performances were great and generally it looked really good.

I'm sure The King will be fine, and for all we know, it may undergo a name change. If it's "bad", which I doubt, Netflix would put it up for streaming in the dead of summer, but I'm sure it's fine and they are fine tuning it for release in Nov/Dec. We're all just impatient because we haven't heard a damn thing, and it is unusual, especially with the talent attached to this film.

It's not necessarily the postponing, it's the unusual complete lack of hype-generation. Not a single photo, piece of info, article, poster or teaser. It's not just unusual to us because we're impatient, people who worked on it are surprised by the radio silence. But hey, it's Netflix, they're weird.

I've heard positive things so far. I assume it'll be in a fall or winter release if streamed there. Like Roma was, and we know how successful that film was during award season.

Here is the first mentioning of The King possibly screening at the fall film festival, and it could premiere at Venice!!

I wish they would just officially announce it already. All these sites put up dates and who knows what is true or not. I hope this is true though! If so, maybe it would be at Venice, Telluride and/or TIFF. We have to just keep waiting for official word.
