Initially, out of Timmy's 4 upcoming movies, this was the one I was least excited about. I never had any interest in reading LW or seeing any of the other adaptions (and honestly, still don't). But this movie, I am really excited about. With the test screening positive comments I have seen and these stills, I have a lot of faith in Greta and think this will be a really good movie. So looking forward to it now.
And it is amazing what some stills will do! I have seen nothing but positive comments about them - I love how everyone looks, their costumes, etc. Timmy looks amazing!

tracyrcat, I felt the same. I've never read Little Women or had any interest in seeing the movie versions of it. To be honest, I usually find period pieces boring. But after seeing it at the test screening, I have to say I enjoyed it more than I thought I would. It kept my interest and I thought everyone was very good in it, especially Saoirse and Timmy. I really like them together. They seem to have a natural chemistry and I felt it showed in Little Women. Believe it or not, I actually noticed the costumes when I wasn't drooling over Timmy. LOL I thought the costumes were beautifully done. I know it's a minor thing but......

Well I know what I am doing Christmas Day in the afternoon ... of course, my film voting choices come 5th after my parents and two nephews haha so it is probably a December 26th viewing. At least this is the type of movie I can see with my mother who likes dramas during the holidays.

I know someone who went to the first test screening and he was not a fan of the book or previous adaptions but he really liked it and so did the person he went with. He said Saoirse, Timmy and Florence were very, very good in it. He met Greta afterwards and told her he didn't like the book but loved the movie. I love what Timmy is wearing - especially in the scene with Florence. He really fits into this time period. The costumes they all were wearing were beautiful and well done, at least in the stills. Can't wait for the trailer.

LOL I thought the costumes were beautifully done. I know it's a minor thing but...... It's not a minor thing, people win Oscars for Costume Design. The littlest details matter. I was looking at the clothing that Timmy was seen wearing in just the stills and it's remarkable how lovely it is and accurate for the timing. As soon as Timmy was announced to be Laurie, I watched the 1994 version of the film. For those who have no interest in doing that, you'll be doing yourself a great favor because it's a nice story and it will give you some familiarity as to what to expect. I used to be closed minded too about certain kinds of films and avoided them because I thought they were dull or won't be to my liking. But at the least, a film adaptation of a book I didn't want to read, has opened my mind and gave me great enjoyment in watching. And this is coming from a person who loved several versions of Jane Eyre, but can't be arsed to read the book. So at least, watch a LW movie to prepare yourself. It's quite lovely.

You're welcome, teenca. Wish I could reveal more but they had us sign a non-disclosure before seeing it.

I will say that Timmy had a larger role in it than I thought he was going to. He doesn't have the longest scenes but he's in it throughout. I loved him in this role. I fell in love with him all over again and I know my fellow Timmy fans will feel the same when they see it.

This is good to know because as I recall from LW 1994, Bale's Laurie was truly a supporting male character. I reckon with Gerwig being a Chalamaniac, she was going to use Timmy as much as possible, if not more (creative liberties) and flesh out his Laurie more to feed our appetites. Smart woman!

I worried about Timothee have a small role (like in Lady Bird) but have also heard that even though he is supporting, it is a good size role. So glad that Greta utilized him. I know she loves him too (don't we all)!

I think Greta learned from Ladybird that Timmy's Kyle was indeed a very interesting character and he could have been used more in the film. For instance, it's my understanding that there was a complete scene sequence where Kyle was handling of the death of his father and funeral plans. I would have love to seen that side of Kyle because I think his rude mannerisms were a cover up for the pain he felt as he was losing his father. It didn't appear that his mother was in his life. Kyle was an underdeveloped character. Sorry for deviating from topic... but I think this demonstrates why it appears that Greta is using Timmy more as Laurie in her follow up film working with him.
^ No one has created a Ladybird thread. Shocked and embarrassed.
6/21/2019: A LadyBirdy thread has been created!

Agreed Simone. Kyle could have been an interesting character but he was so underdeveloped I didn't feel anything for him. Nothing against Timothee but the character felt very incomplete to me. And yes, I heard in a Q&A about the funeral sequence that was completely cut out of the movie (and it would have showed a different side of Kyle). Kyle was only there to be kind of a douchebag and break Ladybird's heart. So I worried a bit about how Greta would use Timothee in LW but seems I have nothing to worry about

I watched "Lady Bird" not only to see Timothee but of course the rest of the great cast, including Saoirse and Laurie. I agree that the character of Kyle was such a ^$$@#, but you could tell Kyle was suppressing a lot of emotional pain. Maybe related to his parents as you say and their misfortunes. I am more conservative on some things so I was upset when Kyle had random sex with Christine but he acted like it was nothing to him but it meant the world to her. Good acting from the cast! I went to Catholic high school and Kyle definitely reminded me of one of those guys who thought they were too cool for school and the people in it. This probably will never happen, but a good spinoff from "Lady Bird" would be to dig deeper into Kyle's character and explore what happened to him years later. I think he could be interesting there dimensional character if done right.
But since this is a "Little Women" thread, I too am looking forward to admiring Timothee all over again in a more substantive role. It sounds like I am going to be sad when his heart gets broken!

Saw this on AW. I assume "Wells" is a critic but I don't know who he/she is, but seems legit. LW sounds very promising!
Can no longer view for free but Wells says he has heard good things with the exception of Emma Watson sticking out like a sore thumb in comparison to the rest of the cast. Ronan is apparently amazing and Gerwig's direction is great. Florence Pugh a scene stealer.
Greta Gerwig‘s Little Women “was recently tested again in NYC area. I hear it’s shorter. Emma Watson still sticks out but the flashbacks flow well. It essentially has no plot and instead offers a fragmented story of these sisters. Told in brief vignettes that intercut between timelines and characters. Beautifully faithful adaptation but Gerwig deviates from the source material with a brilliantly funny and emotional finale. Huge crowd pleaser and very feminist.
“Saoirse Ronan dominates with a volcanic performance, and watch out for Florence Pugh in supporting. She’s a scene-stealer as the bratty yet vulnerable sister. Florence crushes her centerpiece monologue in a heartbreaking scene with Timothee Chalamet. Gerwig directs the film with feverish humanity and delightful cinematic techniqueslike fourth-wall breaks and immaculate long takes that really pay off.”
