This makes me wonder if he’ll have the advantage on the Wonka role since Tim Burton did Charlie and the Chocolate Factory...either way, I don’t ever remember being this excited for a Super Bowl ad! 🤩

I won't be watching the Superbowl just to watch this ad. I'll wait until it's available on YT shortly after the Superbowl ends. But yes, tapping into the Burton universe this way paves the way for an announcement of some sort for Timmy to do a sequel to Scissorhands or Willy Wonka, both of which are in the afterglow of Johnny Depp's awesome performances, one of his favorite actors.

I’m the same way Simone, I never watch the game, I just watch the commercials after. I really hope we can learn more about the “making of” process after its debut as well because I would love to hear the story behind Timmy’s first commercial appearance. Too funny that it’s for a car and he’s a New Yorker!

Timothée has a car in NYC, his parents have a car. I think most well to do people have a car to escape the city when they need to.

This is great news! We now have a specific time frame in which to look out for Timmy's Cadillac commercial. So that means I can check in to the Superbowl after the half-time show crap. I don't watch the Superbowl, I haven't since the 80s. But I'll tune in by the 4th qtr so I can be one of the tens of millions of people to watch it live. For those who can't or don't want to watch the Superbowl, the video will be available online almost immediately after the game ends. I'll post it here as soon as it's available.

I decided to create a separate thread for this commercial project that will air during the 4th quarter of the Superbowl. Timmy posted this image of him as Edgar Scissorhands just a few moments ago on his IG. The video and all subsequent conversations about the commercial will be posted in this thread. https://www.instagram.com/p/CK-rPxFh0bH

Here is the Vogue interview! I can't believe all this Timmy stuff we're getting by surprise this weekend!!! Pictures will follow after - Timothée Chalamet on Paying Homage to Edward Scissorhands in the Coolest Super Bowl Ad of the YearThe script for Edward Scissorhands describes Tim Burton’s titular creation as a slim, pale-faced young man with “wildly trimmed” hair and “eyes so big [that] they seem like two huge unfathomable pools.” Of course, this role was originally played by Johnny Depp in the 1990 cult classic, but the description could just as easily fit Timothée Chalamet. A new Cadillac ad featuring the Call Me By Your Name star imagines what life would look like in 2021 for Edward’s son Edgar, who has inherited his father’s scissor hands and all of the headaches that come with them. Unable to finish simple tasks like riding the bus or catching a football without wreaking havoc, Edgar’s frustrations begin to wear on him and his mother Kim Boggs (Winona Ryder, reprising her role from the film). With some assistance from the Cadillac LYRIQ’s hands-free driving technology, Edgar finally is able to get behind the wheel. A longtime Burton fanatic, Chalamet jumped at the chance to revisit one of the director's most beloved cinematic universes. Airing during the fourth quarter of tonight's Super Bowl LV, the 90-second spot sees the Oscar-nominated actor carve out a full emotional arc for his character, complete with a patchwork leather suit modeled after Colleen Atwood’s original designs. In an exclusive interview with Vogue, Chalamet shared his thoughts on teaming up with Cadillac for the project, tackling the role of Edgar, and getting to have “America’s Sweetheart" play his mom. How did you react when Cadillac approached you about paying homage to Edward Scissorhands in their new Super Bowl spot?Well, legacy and precedent are some of the most important factors for me in choosing projects. Edward Scissorhands was a movie I adored growing up and the opportunity to step into that world was a dream come true. I was also excited about LYRIQ's emphasis on environmental sustainability and cutting down on using fossil fuel dependent cars. It felt like the perfect combination of legacy with an eye towards the future. I also love the director David Shane’s work in the commercial space and he was really open to collaborating on this. What originally appealed to you about the film and Tim Burton's work in general? I grew up an enormous Tim Burton fan. And while the projects I’ve been lucky enough to be a part of have often been grounded in realism, and grounded in this universe, I’ve been increasingly—especially as I’ve gotten to know Tim over the past couple of months—drawn to fables and stories that get to the essence of who we are in fantastical fashion. H ow did you get into character and find your specific take on Edgar? This was a wonderful opportunity to hopefully make the original material relatable to a modern audience without sacrificing the originality of the 1990 version. Instead, we wanted to create a character that didn’t make you blink in terms of a present-day setting, b ut was a total homage to the character Johnny Depp created. (Simone: I really respect how Timmy gives a respectful shout out to Johnny Depp!)How do you factor clothes and presentation into your process when you’re shaping a character?
I had a ton of fun working with [costume designer] Melissa Derossa to create a character that could feel authentic to the austere expressionism of the original but with modern motifs. We used beat up iPhone charger cables for his shoelaces. And more grungy feeling flannels with scissor cuts throughout. But we also use the iconic moon crescent from Johnny’s original belt buckle costume as a sort of shoulder strap on Edgar’s costume as a small call back to the past. We stayed true to the unwritten rule of the original that Edgar’s leather exterior somehow functions as his natural “skin” and exterior. Even though it would seem he is covered, he still has to wear regular clothes, and so we had many wonderful opportunities to think about how a young Scissorhands would look like today. Even though it would seem he is covered, he still has to wear regular clothes, and so we had many wonderful opportunities to think about how a young Scissorhands would look like today. How was the experience working with Winona Ryder? Working with Winona was a total dream come true. She’s an incredible actress and continues to be an American icon. And in the same way I love working with Saoirse Ronan—it was a reminder of the "America’s Sweetheart" role Winona occupied in many American hearts and minds in the 90s. And she had some tidbits that were honestly creatively very helpful, although that will stay between her and me.
