The protests in SoCal are outrageous. A LOT of troublemakers are unemployed, bored, pissed off, but most are peaceful, while the rest are thugs and thieves causing looting problems. I'm happy to see that Timmy made it to California and he was in Santa Monica near the fishermen's wharf participating in peaceful protesting. Thanks for being a part of this Timmy!

Simone, thank you so much for being so damn reasonable and making sense. Now why can't the media and other leaders on all sides be this nuanced and separate peaceful protests from rioting and looting?!
I only know what I read and hear and of course George Floyd's death looks like a murder based on the totality of the video. This killing was not justified at all and needs to be investigated and prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law. I will agree that the criminal justice system in our country needs reform today ASAP and not tomorrow and not after more needless black deaths in which people express outrage but nothing substantive happens.
And while I will defend 24/7 protests as quinesstial American rights, I will only defend them if they are peaceful. I cannot support for any reason rioting and looting of innocent peoples property and maybe even their livelihoods and lives. It is just so wrong to me and expands the pain and suffering.
And I agree with you that the pandemic and resulting economic depression and poverty especially in hard hit minority areas has only made the situation worst like a powder keg waiting to finally explode and it did in 2020. I still believe the right way forward for all of us is to judge people as individuals and not groups ... whether they be conservative, liberal, white, black, protestor, or police officer. And we need to work together for a better legal and police system which will always be imperfect but I think is better than none in modern society.

Thank you Anthony! I know these protests are occurring nationwide, but the main thing about protests in California is that EVERYONE WATCHES what goes on here. We are the bellwether that signals when change needs to happen. So it just makes it all the more impressive and poignant that Timothée Chalamet, from NYC, is in Santa Monica participating in the peaceful protests earlier this afternoon. Due to the looting that was started blocks away from the peaceful protests (by design), the city established a curfew at 4pm. Timmy's last IG post was like at 3:57, so he was adhering to the curfew and I'm sure he went back to his hotel or house rental. But him taking time out to physically protest is very meaningful to me, as a fan of his, and as one of his black fans. Days earlier this week when he was still in NY, he made some notable 'public service announcement' type IG story posts, so with him showing up in a protest in SoCal, it was not surprising.
Additionally, I want to take a moment to stress how important it is for a talent of Timmy's A-list stature to boldly make it clear where he stands on the issue of cop on black murder and harassment, while SO MANY of his contemporaries, peers, and colleagues, have remained silent! He has certainly stood out from the crowd and has made his sincere concern about the George Floyd murder case public where fans such as myself have further amplified Timmy's interest and support in this important social justice situation. I'm so proud and happy to be supporting such a compassionate and empathetic young man.

What does Timothees sign say, especially the small print? I was trying to read it but it appears backwards to me.
My views on various issues ... not all for the record ... have tended to be more conservative or different than people in Hollywood. So I usually go my own way. But I will admit when someone I admire or love whether in my personal life or my fanboy life ... ahem Timothee ahem... expresses strong views, yes I do take notice to stop and listen to see if I also can come to the same or similar viewpoint. Celebrity influence does carry a lot of weight in America like it or not.
I will only add to your fine comment that while many celebrities have not marched in person like Timothee has ... and who the heck knows for sure with these facial masks for the pandemic haha... many of them have donated money to good causes related to what's happened this week per the news. I know that donations dont equal in person advocacy. But they do keep important organizations going. And I think certain stars are just quiet by nature and introverts actually who dont publicly protest anything ... like me haha. I have been trying to do 5ks for good causes; but selfishly I need to get in better shape so maybe that doesnt count?! Forgive my lame attempt at levity.

I hear what you're saying Anthony. And I'm sure celebrities who are too scared to publicly support this social injustice cause may donate in private instead. They don't have the courage to put their face on the issue for fear of alienating their fans. Taylor Swift pissed off legions of her fans when she made this tweet:
She got nearly half a million RTs and 2 million likes. Of the 107K comments, many are hateful and have expressed disappointment in her views. She has held back her opinion about trump per the request of her sponsors and management team. But not anymore!
A lot of celebrities are in a similar boat and thus, don't have the balls like Timmy and Taylor to do the right thing and publicly. I applaud them both.

Days earlier this week when he was still in NY.
He was never in NY. He's been in LA since he left London in March.

I actually liked that Taylor Swift was mostly apolitical for years, because so many big name celebrities are not. It was refreshing for me as someone who often loves certain stars but just disagrees maybe on politics or religious views.
But now that Taylor has recently become more of an advocate ... and I agree that President Trump has never been good on healing racial divides and I personally will be voting for Joe Biden over him in 2020... I will defend Taylors right to say whatever the hell she wants. I am not a member of Twitter, because I cannot stand the type of vitriolic shit that is thrown at someone like Taylor. Twitter gives people a cover to say mean or nasty shit to others when they would likely never do so in real life. Why cant people just debate or disagree in good faith or just shut the hell up and post their own view without attacking someone else?!
At the end of the day, I support yourself, Timothee, and Taylor on this issue. I'm just not a natural protestor for various reasons. As to celebrities, I hope they can be themselves in a respectful and authentic manner. Just as we should all strive for.

Timmy just got a shot out on the local KNBC news as being one of the few Hollywood A-listers protesting today. They mentioned him as the Oscar nominated actor showing support today Robert Kovacik is the reporter. See, it is great press being public with deeds like this.

I've just seen these protests on IG stories. Obviously I'm less involved what is happening on the other side of the world, though I'm listening, and these actions matter for me. In the meantime as of today in my country the government is strengthening the presence of the police!! Until the end of summer. They have the right to stop, to ask any questions from anybody without doing anything. WTF is going on in the world???

I think two words all people need to incorporate into their discussions is "nuance" and "distinctions". That's why I keep repeating that while I support peaceful protests and have seen some wonderful examples of that including where the police either join in Michigan or have kneeled in DC, I just dont support riot and looting for any reason even if the underlying causes are just.
That being said, one thing that has become clear from all this news is that whenever there are peaceful protestors, most police need to definitely step back and not use tear gas or weapons or their fists unless necessary. And if the protests are peaceful, then I dont think those enforcement tools are necessary.
One final thought I wanted to share with Club Chalamet. I saw this quote online that I think applies to someone like me as a young white man. "I understand that I never will understand. However, I stand." I think those two sentences incorporate my thinking on racism and discrimination in general since I have never personally experienced them. I am striving though to understand more and be a better person as we all should. I also agree that this issue is so much more important than any film, but I hope you dont mind me saying in an attempt at humor I cant wait to discuss Dune again. God Bless!

I found it! I recorded the 45 seconds of the breaking news telecast of May 31st where Timmy is mentioned as being one of the celebrities participating in peaceful protests.

I just felt the need to drop a note tonight and hope everyone is doing well on one of my favorite fan message boards here. I also appreciate the good debates we have and thoughtful commentary. I would like to think Timothee sometimes reads some of these comments and appreciates his fans here both in their diversity of opinion and background. Take care this week!

I am sorry, Simone, for some people canceling you this week. Social media can get ugly, and I absolutely loathe this cancel culture that I think is toxic and prevents people with different views from truly engaging and understanding each other. I think it is great that both you and Timothee have passionate views on this subject. I have a good friend who participated in a march as well. We had a good discussion the other night about what's next. I would like to think we are heading for a moment that besides justice for the George Floyd family we can get some meaningful reforms thanks to the protests.
My personal overly simplistic view is that at their best liberal minded Americans are champions of human rights, social justice and progress, whereas conservative minded Americans at their best want to constrain too much government overreach and abuse of power in favor of local and individual rights. I hope that maybe we can now bring both views together and reform in some way the police unions and prosecutorial offices so that it's harder to ignore police misconduct and deter such conduct from happening in the first place.
I don't want to see this moment for good change in the midst of a global pandemic go to waste. Voting and reforms in the political process are important but I know that people especially white Americans need to better reflect on their own behaviors and attitudes and how to improve them. Changing hearts and minds is a lifetime project.
