It seems like Beautiful Boy might premiere at the Venice Film Festival. I don't know if this is a sign of confidence in the movie in terms of its quality or it means nothing at all? Any of you has a better knowledge of how the festivals thing work? It is a huge deal that Beautiful Boy will have its world premiere at Venice. With it coming out limited release in the US on October 12th, it has to take advantage of the fall festivals, starting with Venice, to help with its Oscar push. We won't know if it'll screen at Telluride until the day before that festival begins, and TIFF should be announcing their roster in about 2 weeks. Beautiful Boy should do very well at Venice. With Timmy's breakout film being made in Italy, he may be high on the radar with the festival there. |

Huge TC fan here, and fan of both Sheff books. personally I will not be happy to see TC come out and talk about his "close calls" filming BB. Was he homeless? Was he having to do "whatever" to stay alive? Was he in jail or a psych ward? It's such a disservice to addicts, in recovery and those not there yet. I hope they do not promote this angle to better his chances of getting awards. As the mother of an addict, he was filming a movie, nothing more or less.

I think Timothée is a young man who is smart and sensitive enough to know the difference between being a well cared for actor portraying a meth addict, and an actual meth addict and the incredibly dire situations they find themselves in just to barely survive, and therefore not cause any offense to those who truly struggle with addiction when Timmy addresses his filming experience. I'm sure Timmy will talk about his prepping for the role, which as I understand was a hardship in of itself, and he deserves kudos for trying to replicate as close as he could, the physical and emotional changes one goes through with their harrowing saga of meth addiction. |

The close calls and doctor visits talk was related to his weight loss. You don't need to be an addict to have health problems if you lose a lot of weight, which Timothée seems to have done for this role. I don't see any disrespect towards people who suffer from addictions in saying filming a movie wasn't easy from a physical point of view.

There's a new interview with Felix Van Groeningen in which he talks a little about the movie and Timmy. It's in Dutch but if you turn on the subtitles option and set the auto-translate to English, you can understand what he says.
