I just noticed that Sasha Stone updated the Supporting Actor contender tracker at Awards Daily, but, for some reason, she hasn't added Timothée onto that list yet. I sent her a tweet asking if she's going to include him, so we'll see. She's a great barometer for awards season, and I try to support her, but she's extremely mercurial and she's a fan girl of favorites herself. She may still harbor some resentments towards Chalamet (which is unprofessional) because he posed such a critical threat to her fave last year, Oldman, when Timmy won so much critical praise. A lot of fans gloated about Timmy's success and each time they did, she became enraged. She resents him, she doesn't hate him, she thinks he's cute, sweet and talented, but she straight up calls him a BOY... a boy who will win an Oscar one day, but a boy who will not, and cannot take Oldman's Oscar from him. LOL! Whatever. She has a habit of taking things personally against some celebrities/films based on the celebrity's fanbase (being too rabid/fanatical for her taste). She's a couple years older than me so her patience with younger fans who have a knack for causing supreme immature annoyance is something I can relate to . LOL! Her hissy fits make me laugh sometimes, but they can also be annoying. I remember her tweet one time saying, and I paraphrase 'I'm trying not to hate Timmy/CMBYN because of the fans but it's making it hard'. When she does stuff like that, I think it's just unprofessional especially for the position she holds at the website she maintains. She holds influence whether she publicly admits it or not. But in the greater scheme of things, i still prefer her website to the other awards discussion forum, mostly because of the active commentators who are so much more stable and mature and provide good insider intel. With all this said, I do respect what she has done in creating Awards Daily and as a rare woman in a man's game of Oscar prognosticating, she has my support.

Cameron Bailey the Artistic Director at TIFF seems excited about Beautiful Boy. "Next level Chalamet".

no he was being nice about it but the film's quality was not up to their standards. no need to be worried though...we will find out award chances in 3 weeks after tiff. This doesn't sound good.... However not every film nominated by Venice is good right? Many films are pretty bad actually, like Downsizing last year. Sorry I don't watch many Venice nominated films, so I don't know how to judge this news. Because BB delivers very important messages to the society, I hope it gets wide social recognition, not just critic acclaims/awards. I will be happy if it's a similar case to Lion in which the audience like it though the critic review is so so. Oh my stomach hurts while waiting for TIFF... This. I watched Downsizing yesterday and almost fell asleep. A very boring movie. I'm not worried about BB being rejected by Venice. It would have been nice if it was accepted, but I was kinda surprised at the rumour it was going to be screened there because BB just doesn't seem like a Venice film at all.
Also, I know Barbera might have just wanted to play nice, but who says the movie isn't really excellent as he said? Maybe it really is great but it just didn't fit with the lineup Barbera wanted to put together.

Yeah, I'm less worried than I was about the film festival thing. It's irrelevant to the film's quality.

descriptions for TIFF movies have all been updated including Beautiful Boy. I found it interesting that this was one of the only descriptions where the first paragraph is dedicated to the actor's performance. You can compare with similar movies to this one including Boy Erased and Ben Is Back where the description is mostly focused on the plot. ___
Fresh from his breakout role in Call Me By Your Name, Academy Award nominee Timothée Chalamet turns in another dazzling performance in Beautiful Boy.
Playing a young man raging and suffering through drug addiction, he confirms his status as one of the very best actors of his generation. He is matched every step of the way in this moving drama by Steve Carell, who continues to build on his comic achievements with powerhouse dramatic turns in Foxcatcher, The Big Short, and most definitely here. David Sheff (Carell) is a kind, loving, middle-class dad. He and his wife, Vicki (Amy Ryan), seem to have done everything right for their family. So when son Nic (Chalamet) gets addicted to methamphetamine, David can't believe it, can't stop it, and can't help but risk everything to try to get his son back. As he grapples with Nic's lies, betrayals, and constant flirtations with death, the film reminds us of who Nic used to be - a sweet, thoughtful, beautiful boy.
Adapting the bestselling books that David Sheff and Nic Sheff wrote about their experiences, Belgian director Felix van Groeningen brings both realism and poetry to a tragically timely story. As the Sheffs confront the intractable, unpredictable beast of addiction, they must at the same time confront the fact that Nic's pain might also be his choice. Beautiful Boy doesn't shy away from the harsh reality of this family's struggle, but frames it with a surprising amount of life, love, and hope.

That is a very nice description of Timothée's performance and complimentary on Steve Carell too. This is definitely going to be a HOT ticket at TIFF.

I noticed the description too. The performances of BB must be breathtakingly stellar. Timmy's number of awards/nominations will probably double this year

Honestly I hope I don't see another tweet about how TC lived the role of BB. . He is NOT an addict. He didn't live the horror. I will be very disappointed if he assumes this angle in interviews. I have been a big fan of his but this will put me and many others in the recovery community off.

Everyone knows he's not an addict, he's an actor trying to accurately portray a character addicted.

I haven't seen anything saying he "lived" the role. Mostly, that he immersed himself in the role and gave it all, which I think it's what you'd expect from a good actor. Certainly he himself hasn't said anything of the sort. I'm sure he will be very respectful of the real life Nic Sheff and other people suffering from addiction/in recovery. Nic Sheff, btw, seems to think highly of Timmy from a tweet he posted, so I trust Timmy to handle the promotion with attention.

I have been a big fan of his but this will put me and many others in the recovery community off. Why are you saying this? I don't understand at all. Has Timmy said anything innappropriate about his experience with this movie in any interview? If so please show me with links. Put many in the recovery community away? Exz me? Haven't you seen David and Nic talk about how this movie authentically depicted their story and may HELP people know better the addiction problem and the community? Anyway what's wrong with an actor talking about his hardship playing a challenging role? If he made efforts he deserves the kudos. Oh he shouldn't tell people how hard he played because saying this will offend the role he played? What's the logic here? Working hard is the only way to pay respect to the role he plays, just like any other role he played and will play. The promotion tour hasn't even started and you are already accusing him for what he hasn't done and cast suspision to everyone... I didn't reply last time but now Im f angry.

tealover, Timothée has yet to have any interviews published where he speaks of his preparation for playing Nic Sheff. So like you, I'm very perplexed as to where this defensive attitude is coming from in thinking that Timothée would offend the "recovering community". Thanks.
