I was afraid of this. The French Dispatch is hated by two film critics that I follow and really like. They saw it at Telluride and they are Wes Anderson fans. I'm watching it because of Timmy, but I'm preparing myself to not like it as I'm not into Wes' films.

I like Wes's films, so I hope it'll be quite good. Not great, after these critics.

I'll definitely be trying to catch this film because in addition to Timothee I do like a lot of the cast. But I'll have to see if I enjoy it. Maybe what the reviews are showing is that it may not get nominated for Best Picture. Why I love film and art is that it is so subjective. There are movies that critics absolutely loved and then I saw and was like what the hell are you talking about haha?! And I've been known to like a few critical failures where people may roll their eyes!

Is it only being shown in theaters? Not sure it'll be showing near me.

I think it's only in theatres the same weekend as Dune. I may have the same issue as you in that since I live in the suburbs more arthouse, independent type films dont get shown here unless I am willing to drive an hour north or south. Or unless the films become box office hits and expand widely. I will do my best to watch at end of October.

Here's a nice review in support of The French Dispatch. I know Jazz and I'm relieved she liked it. Whew!

Thanks, I'm happy to read a positive review of the movie. Especially of the score and the hair, haha

Timothée was fine in his vignette, but I did have a problem with why everyone else in his French student revolt group spoke French to him in their discussions with him, but he spoke in English. I'm sure there's some kind of Wes Anderson reason for it, but I have no time for 'Wes Andersoness' in this film. I found it boring and pretentious. I hope you all are still interested in seeing it to judge for yourself. But I found the filming of it absolutely gorgeous and exceptional. I just didn't like the storytelling concept.
oh, and I was livid that the theater "ran out" of the "while supplies last" of the French Dispatch magazine. The assholes at Landmark LA gave them all out on Friday. Fucking Friday, didn't save any for Saturday or Sunday audiences! Perhaps that was the omen as it turned out that I was not impressed with the movie.

Sorry for the magazine. After having ordered it on yourscelebritymagazines it was sold out. Maybe I ordered one of the last copies. I still have to wait for the movie. Just some days.

I've seen the movie. I like it, but it's not Wes Anderson's bests. Sometimes it was hard to follow the characters and the story but had some beautiful scenes, music, and moments. Timmy is so good and cute.
