The pics that were removed from IMDb were unofficial, it looked like BTS photos taken by the crew or extras posing, so I see it as a good thing they took the pics down. It means they're preparing to post actual promotional photos. As for a teaser, let's remember it's a Netflix movie, their marketing strategy is different than that of other movies. Take ROMA for example, it premiered at Venice on August 30, 2018 and opened in limited release on November 21. The first trailer was released in mid-August only.(There was a teaser trailer in late July but it was just a video of water washing over tiles so...) Going by this example, I don't expect anything before July. Besides, we should expect less promo than for a classic release, unless Netflix plans to shake things up given Timmy and Pattinson's notoriety. Who knows, it's only the second year they're doing awards-season campaign so it's still new, they can decide to change their strategy but I'm not holding my breath. Thanks for the explanation. It makes perfect sense!

Thanks to everyone for all the information about how Netflix works with promos, marketing, and trailers. I did not realize there was such a shorter timeframe between promotional materials and release. My mind is still orientated to the old school way of how movies that are released in the theaters are promoted months if not years in advance. I like Netflix and its advantages but I still prefer going out to a theater with a large movie screen and laughing or crying at the same cinematic experience with total strangers. But I am adapting to streaming like most people now.

Well as of late, these "total strangers" can be assholes. In the last three movies I went to see, some idiot near me NEEDS to play with their cell phone to check facebook, twitter, instagram, or fucking text. They are indifferent to those around them. I'm really hating people in theaters lately.
But it was fun watching John Wick 3 with total strangers who were 'Ohhhing and Awwwing' with me.

That is what would deter from going to theatres in the past - a lot of annoying, inconsiderate people. But I must say I saw quite a few in the theatre last awards seasons and most of the audience was fine. I did have at my first viewing of BB, that old guy right next to me checking his watch every 5 minutes (remember me telling you that Simone). It was so annoying and distracting. He should have just left if he was that miserable.

I certainly have had my share of bad experiences in the theatre over the years. But I would say the good ones outweigh the bad ones. So many good memories of movies with family and friends.
And for our man Timothee, I may actually go multiple times to see Dune in the theatre. That type of movie needs to be seen with big screen and live audience. I wish The King was like that too but I'll watch on Netflix of course.

I gotta figure The King will be in theatres for a little while - just a short theatrical release, than will go to Netflix. I want to see it in the theatre. I keep hoping it is at TIFF and I can get tickets and see it there but that is all wishful thinking right now.

I am watching TIFF news too in order to see if The King shows up there. I cant commit right now to going to TIFF due to personal stuff but if I suddenly find out The King premieres at TIFF, that may push me to attend my first time there. Would be fun!

It would be awesome if it premiered there. I can't remember when they start releasing what movies are at TIFF. I think maybe July/early August?? I have never been there either so I know it will be crazy and trying to get tickets can be difficult. But it would certainly make it more exciting if The King or Little Women premieres there.

The first announcement of films is in late July. Over the next five weeks before TIFF begins, they release more titles. Beautiful Boy was announced to be there in during the first round of announcements, so you should know which Timmy film will be there by then.

With several months of post-production, I wonder if the movie will premiere at any fall film festivals. Close call maybe.

With several months of post-production, I wonder if the movie will premiere at any fall film festivals. Close call maybe. That is what I now wonder too. Seems it wouldn't be ready for Venice, Telluride, TIFF. I guess maybe NYFF but there aren't a lot of movies at NYFF and I've heard they are very particular about what they pick, so not sure The King would even be chosen. Be very disappointing if it isn't ready for any of the festivals. I wondered, when a movie is submitted for consideration for a festival, does it have to be ready at that point or does it just have to be ready for when the festival opens??

As some productions have realized in the past, it's not good to showcase a film at a festival if it's still in post-production mode. If it's still several months away from being completed, I don't think it'll be ready for the festivals, and it will just do qualifying runs in theaters for its Oscar campaign, and then be available on Netflix.
Same for Little Women. It's scheduled to be released on Christmas Day, but I think because its production wasn't as elaborate as The King, it should be ready for TIFF or NYFF, or both.

Agreed, seems LW will be going the festival route and clearly isn't going to take as long in post-production. But The King will clearly have some action scenes/battle scenes, etc. which I would imagine would take longer to edit, etc. Too bad, I was hoping it would be at TIFF but I would rather have them take the time to make it really good than rush out a product that is then disappointing.
