A lot of people were outraged by his Oscar snub, even critics. After watching the Oscars for so many years, 2019 confirmed to me that it's rigged, and I will fight to the death any bitch who says it's not rigged. I've never been so upset over a snub. I didn't cry, but my day was completely fucked. I didn't cry either but was so sad that day. He had made the 4 precursors so I thought he would get the nomination and he didn't. It was clearly rigged. They figured he got a nom the year before with CMBYN and they weren't going to give another nom to a young kid, in their eyes. It was maddening. Anyways, I hope LW is at TIFF. Definitely want to see it again when it is finished!

^For those thinking that he was miscast, they are delusional. Timmy can't do anything about his appearance, he's just a very attractive guy. So some possible future criticism may be that they think he was too attractive for the role, so, brace yourselves for that. The actresses in the film are all lovely, but, they may look a little dull next to him. Ahem. Haters are so pathetic. I've obviously not seen the film yet but judging on the stills and Greta's words I think it makes perfect sense to make Tim exceptionally pretty. It sounds like a cheeky feminist play on the norms of the genre. In keeping with Alcott's vibe. I'm re-reading it now and Laurie is kind of a damsel in distress at the beginning and Jo is his saviour from loneliness and maddening isolation (hence his devotion) so heck yeah, it's great if we get a film adaptation in which he's the object of desire and the aesthetic draw, instead of the heroine. A refreshing role reversal. People who nitpick on that mostly sound like they missed the point and are dumb AF.

I like the whole cast of "Little Women" from other movies so I imagine I will enjoy the film. Test screenings sound fun. Just got to ignore people who try to ruin a good thing for everyone else.

It is one thing to post some general overall positive comment but those posting negative comments when it is not complete yet, that is just so wrong. And they know this! Guess they just like to criticize and cause drama. Someone mentioned that some at the test screening posted comments on Letterbox but they have now all been removed. I bet studios get a little nervous doing test screenings but feel they need that input, so they take the risk. Test screenings must have been so much easier back in the "old" days before social media/cell phones, etc.!

Hi - for those of you who attended a Little Women screening (and I appreciate that you can't say much), did you find Timothee's performance "too modern"? This is feedback I saw on AW, etc. I am assuming too modern has to do with inflection energy, delivery... It seems like Greta would have directed him to deliver in a way that reflects the period.

Here we go again with cleaning up garbage from AW. Timmy performed in a role the way his director directed him to do it. His character fit well into the 19th century story. However, I will say that the director may have taken creative liberties to freshen up the story to appeal more to 21st century audiences.

Simone delivering the truth! Yeah, most of the cast who commented on the script before or after filming said Greta had a fresh and new approach to the story that's been told countless times. People who have an issue with the flashback storytelling need to sit down. From the script that leaked ages ago, those jumps in time were meant to show the development of the girls, specifically Amy and Jo. I'm really not worried about Timmy's performance. Others have said the film is beautiful and will be perfect for the holiday season release here in the states.

I don't even know what "too modern" means when looking at a performance. This is literally coming from one person at the test screening (that someone else than posted on AW). There have been at least 4 test screenings I know of - I wouldn't worry about what one person says. Timothee is great in this - he fits into the role perfectly.
Definitely what Simone says - Greta did give it a bit of a modern feel. Making things relatable to now.

The holiday release date of Little Women is perfect. It almost made me miss living in Michigan...

k1017 my harsh tone in my response to you was not directed at you, it's more directed at AW. Thanks for your contribution.

Definitely what Simone says - Greta did give it a bit of a modern feel. Making things relatable to now. It's great to read this and loveforart 's comment about the movie. This is what I expect from LW: a fresh aspect of an old story. This is why a new adaptation would be needed.

Anne is one to listen to, she's a trusted source. Good to know! Anne just contradicted herself. In the latest Screen Talk podcast, she said LW wouldn't be in any of the festivals because of its release date in December. She said back in May it was being shown to the studio in the summer and would be in the fall festivals. Huh??

She may have just learned something from inside sources. We’ll know soon enough. She’s still someone I like listening to, doesn’t mean she’s omnipresent of everything going on in Hollywood. Crazy decisions are made at the drop of a dime by studios. TIFF will be announcing soon.

If LW isn’t at TIFF or NYFF, it could screen at AFI here in LA. A lot of Nov/Dec films have screenings at AFI. It is a festival I mentioned earlier that people should have on their radar. And like many other films, it could very well skip the festivals.

I don't even know what "too modern" means when looking at a performance There's definitely such a thing. Body language is more open and demeanour big and comfortable the more advanced we get as a society. Certain gestures and mannerisms didn't exist or wouldn't dare be used in, say, puritan times. Facial expressions that reveal too much are modern, etc. Having said that, it's up to the adapter's vision. Modern takes are welcome when you want to say something relevant, make an old story breathe new life or shake things up. And the flip side to that is making actors so stiff you don't buy into them ever being real people (as opposed to characters). So his performance could definitely be modern vs a period setting. But it might be Gerwig's artistic choice and a good one, AND it might just be people who don't like him personally feeling the need to say something bad for the sake of it, especially if he stands out as funny or pretty, so they came up with these general criticisms like 'miscast' and 'modern'. Critics and wide audiences might, and likely, feel different.
