I want to go into the awards season with a level head but also a tad optimistic. The Gold Derby link below gives me a little hope to start off Timmy's awards season with a possible Golden Globe nomination. I have long thought that his first role in a musical would set him up to be nominated for Best Actor in a musical/comedy GG. Depending on who is also nominated in this category, you'd think he would have it locked, but that's not necessarily the case. There's always an extra caveat when it comes to Timmy being nominated for something. The Golden Globe nominations will be announced on Dec 11th, and the show will air on CBS on January 7th. As the article mentions, Timmy could make history at the GGs if nominated, and the GGs would also have the honor of being the first major awards body for Timothée to win in a competitive category. He did win Best Actor at the Independent Spirit Awards back in 2018, but they are by no means on the same level as the GGs, SAG, BAFTA, and the Oscars. It's a nice award to win though.
I'll watch Wonka this Friday.

I understand Barbie was the biggest movie this year but 3 songs? There are a couple others which were baffling as well. There needs to be an overhaul because it is predictable at this point. At least the Golden Globes recognized Wonka and Timmy. It is just puzzling how a movie that is getting rave reviews can get shut out because things are rigged and everyone is stuck on awarding based on what is predicted instead of what should win.

I totally agree with you sunnysherry4, the fix is in, if ever there was a clear example of how rigged even the Oscar are, is with this Best Song shortlist. It is so offensive that not one song from Wonka was shortlisted. WB has made it clear that all it's eggs is on Billie Elish for Barbie. It's a done deal. PeriodT.

This isn't the first time the Oscars have done this with the Best Song category. One of the most rigged categories, if not move the goalpost so certain people can get nominated or win. A World Of Your Own deserved a place on the shortlist. There did not need to be three songs from one movie on that list. It is really in Barbie's favor, either Billie or I'm Just Ken. They gave Billie an Oscar for a song that came out a year prior to. I like her music but they are always moving the goalposts for her and her brother to win these awards lol. It would have been great to see Wonka get more recognition but it's okay. We still have Dune. That will bring in the Oscar love and hopefully something for Denis. They did him dirty not nominating him for Best Director. Imagine if the Oscars actually cared less about campaigns, fixing categories and actually awarding on merit.

Billie is the flavor of the month for the Oscars. She's Gen Z and very hot, and actually has talent, a cool win-win for the Tiktok generation. But still sham.

I just feel bad for Timmy because you can tell he is really proud of this film and put a lot of effort into this project, as he does all of his movies. The lack of recognition is frustrating but that is okay. Wonka is an excellent body of work. It is the Oscars loss.

I believe he was looking forward to supporting Wonka at the Oscars, and if that involved singing A World of Your Own on stage, he would have proudly done so. Now, the Oscars will not have much fanfare for Wonka. But if the BAFTAs are wise, they will correct this gross oversight. Also remember, WB is focused on Barbie and The Color Purple, two American productions, against the British production of Wonka.

They really should have delayed the Color Purple until next year. Focused on Barbie and Wonka. Wonka is currently doing much better than Color Purple. They put their eggs in one basket. The back and forth online with the behind the scenes drama didn't help. Had they delayed, Wonka could have at least got many technical nods and Best Song. He still would have lost to Paul Giamatti for GG. Paul is too strong of a nominee this year but it would have garnered more nominations. I listened to some of the nominees. While I enjoy the Barbie songs, I honestly think Lenny's song from Rustin is brilliant. His vocals are fantastic. It is a shame it is getting overlooked along with A World Of Our Own, others. Those would be my top two if I were to pick nominees. Billie's is beautiful but I don't think it should be sweeping. It makes me wonder do these people even listen. These voters are getting lazier and predictable in their choices. No one is getting a fair shake anymore. I used to love award shows until last year. I actually heard a couple critics say how people should win because of the speeches they gave. Are we being serious? Sorry to rant, I have been at odds with award shows and the politics of them for a while. Back to Timmy, I think with Dune there will be more chances to see him next award season. Also, playing Bob Dylan could be a career changer for him. I know there has been bio fatigue lately but with this upcoming project and if promoted properly, Timmy may be an Oscar nominee. We shall see how that goes. The other awards haven't even aired and want it to be done already. 😂 Despite the nonsense that went on yesterday, I do hope Timmy does get a chance to attend upcoming ceremonies. It's a possibility with Dune coming up soon. Have a great day and keep staying positive. You're awesome.

Winners are pre-selected as late as Sept/Oct, so in reality, Wonka didn't really have a chance, especially when, as you state, WB dropped the ball being drunk on Barbie, and putting too much hope on The Color Purple, which seriously underwhelmed me. I have already instructed myself to chill out on Timmy Oscar chatter until AFTER A Complete Unknown comes out so I can evaluate his performance myself, and see who Timmy's other contenders are. He has two more birthdays before he even turns 30, so, if he knocks it out the park playing Dylan, he could garner his 2nd Oscar nom, but to win it, the key is to be the best of all the other guys so that lazy ass "overdue" narratives don't compel voters to vote for the older actor instead of rightfully voting for Timmy. At the present, he just needs to keep working and proving he's more than a pretty face, and rise above the cringy gossip headlines.
