It concerns me that at this late stage, Warner Brothers is still insistent on having Dune be released at theaters and on HBOMax the same date. They could at least have it as theatrical release only for the first 45 days. This is really pissing me off.

Simone, I agree 100%. Apparently I'm in the minority viewpoint among some people in my life, but I really think ALL films should get an exclusive theatre window for just a few weeks, then paid streaming, and finally free streaming. Films are increasingly expensive to make and yeah I think the public should pay something that goes towards the actual film and not just the corporate owners of the streaming service. That's why I plan on seeing and paying for Dune at least twice in theatres even though I can see Dune for free on HBO Max right now under the current rules.
P.S. I LOVE the posters!!!

I dont think I need to post my thoughts on the second Dune trailer, because they are so utterly predictable in a SPECTACULAR BREATHTAKING MIND WARP STREAM OF CONSCIOUSNESS!!! Let me just say that I'm going to be so pissed if we dont get the damn second half of the book. That's my biggest fear. But we know that fear is the mind killer. So I'm not going to worry about that fear right now and simply enjoy all Dune every week for the next few months. Timothee is everything I imagined so far a young Paul Atreides would be. I have read some criticism of his casting from certain comments sections online. But the trailer is deliberately holding back the parts from the novel where I anticipate Timothee will show his dramatic acting range and why he was chosen for the role. And finally I like how the trailer portrays Paul as the hero to get the masses to see the movie when we know he ultimately becomes a much more complex tragic character. I pray we get to see that subversion of the hero story in sequels. But again FEAR IS THE MIND KILLER!!!

Hans Zimmer is an amazing composer. I may buy the soundtrack when it comes out. What I also love about the trailer is the gorgeous cinematography. I am the first one to praise visual effects BUT they still in 2021 dont hold a candle to on location shooting. The desert just looks and feels like Arrakis. I haven't been this excited for one film in a few years!

The title cards for Dune clearly state that this film is Book I. So there will be more to the story. To not do Book 2, even if just to put it on HBOMax would be a total waste of filming Book I in the first place.

I thought the trailer was great. They definitely emphasized the action scenes, which I totally get as they know they already have the Dune fans who will watch it, so they are trying to grab the attention of the non-Dune fans, the general audience. I have watched some trailer reviews on YouTube and haven't seen one bad one yet. Everyone loves the trailer and mentioned Dune has to be seen in a theatre, on IMAX. Some knew nothing or very little about Dune and the trailer excited them, so that is great news.
I am not a big action movie person myself. I do look forward to seeing the full Dune story being told and observing the more intimate interactions between the characters (such as the scene in the trailer with Timothee and Oscar).
They'll for sure be a 2nd Dune movie, I have no doubts. The title labelled this as Part 1. Plus, the screenwriter mentions below.

You guys are definitely more optimistic than some people working in the entertainment media and scifi fandom about part 2 being greenlit. However, I definitely share your positive thinking for the reasons you say. And that comment from the screenwriter is hopeful!
Unless I am misreading the current movie climate, Dune is not going to make Star Wars, Marvel, DC, or Avatar money. I certainly wish it did to make Timothee the "King of the World" haha, but it is just not going to happen. Nevertheless, I do think Dune has the potential to surprise everyone at the boxoffice with a very strong opening weekend that also needs to hold the second weekend. The keys are a solid marketing campaign which was excellent this week and also international sales. I think the story and characters have a good shot of being popular in many countries more so than some other films.
And like you guys, I hate the same day release strategy of HBO Max. I feel like its intentional sabotage at the altar of streaming. If people want to see Dune the first few weeks, I want their asses in theatres and not at home. Hopefully the Dune boxoffice will prove all the haters and doubters wrong. I've seen many comments online about Dune being the first movie post pandemic they want to see in IMAX. That sentiment is encouraging!
And I LOVED the action scenes in the trailer. I will agree that action scenes can sometimes get tedious and boring. But what may set Dune apart is that these are action scenes with a scifi twist such as people fighting with electronic shields. Anything different or unique will be cool to watch.
And I want to also say awesome poster from the Dune preview! I couldnt attend the preview because there wasnt one close by my home. But again smart marketing!
