I got to know about Dune because I saw many fans putting him in the dream cast for Dune. There are definitely people who are unhappy but I have seen more who think he is the perfect Paul. I think this is a good project for him. I just hope that it will be just 2 movies. I want to see him in other interesting roles And Timmy learned Tae Kwon Do, I am sure he can handle the action scenes. He was also with Denis Villeneuve in Cannes. Sandrafilter compiled some interesting information. You can find out more from her tumblr. sandrafilter-new.tumblr.com/post/175988576017/sandrafilter-new-timmy-mentioned-denis

I found this at the Dlist article about Timmy, thought it was hilarious! I can't open this link In DP/30 interview he said he spoke French with Villeneuve and thought this may separate him a little bit. I thought that was just an ordinary meeting but now comes the Dune news, so maybe he was in an audition.

I think it's possible that things really got serious in Cannes. I remember some fans criticizing Timmy because he went to a couple of parties but now I wonder if he was there also to meet Villeneuve.

But the link works for me at home.

Once it's all confirmed and Timmy signed on the dotted line, Dune is going to be to him what The Hunger Games was for Jennifer Lawrence, and what Star Wars was for Mark Hamill. Timothée will be a straight up, bonafide movie star!

Here is an interesting article by a guy who loves Dune and is speculating on the casting development of the film. I like his initial thoughts. I'll follow him on twitter to stay updated on what he's thinking. Casting Dune - Timothée Chalamet Initial Reactions

That looks amazing! Has anyone here read the book? Are the blue eyes important or is it possible for Timmy to just keep his green eyes for the movie? I'm kinda attached to the green. I'm going to look for the book in the next few days and read it soon, I'm very curious about it.

I hope Timmy's green eyes can be kept as much as possible but just slightly intensified. Well with Villeneuve as director, I don't see any reason to be worried about the esthetics of the film.

Extensive use of the drug tints the sclera, cornea, and iris of the user to a dark shade of blue, called "blue-in-blue" or "the Eyes of Ibad",[17] which is something of a source of pride among the Fremen and a symbol of their tribal bond. In Dune, Paul initially has green eyes, but after several years on Arrakis they begin to take on the deep, uniform blue of the Fremen. ( from wiki ) Love the fan art.

I took a bad spill, a complete wipe out on my new electric scooter two weeks ago. Now that I'm healed I can go back to the gym. I'm going to start reading Dune as of today. I like reading a book while walking briskly on a treadmill or on the recumbent bicycle. I look forward to sharing the plot of the book as I go along. I tend to be a fast reader, but I'm going to pace myself with Dune because I know it will introduce me to a whole new universe, literally, of new sci-fi terminology, races of people, and legends that has parallels to our world.

On Wednesday, The Academy Awards made the announcement that they will include a new category in the next broadcast in February 2019 to honor Outstanding Achievement in Popular Film. While they tweak the category title to not seem so cheesy and establish eligibility guidelines, I do embrace this idea. I've argued with Oscar bloggers about this for years and hoping something like this would happen. But the negative reaction to this news has been surprising in its level of veracity. I bring this up in this very thread because I believe that if Dune lives up to Denis Velleneuve's reputation and if it's worthy of being honored with Oscars, the addition of this new category could make this an Oscar winning film. All the long, AMPAS has awarded sci-fi and action films in the technical areas, especially cinematography, editing and sound. But it is extremely rare to have one win the big prize. So, to stir up a discussion on this pre-mature speculation, what are your thoughts on this topic? Read the latest on this at LA Times - www.latimes.com/business/hollywood/la-fi-ct-popular-oscar-confusion-20180809-story.html

I love Villeneuve and I think BR 2049 was completely robbed by Oscar this year. Mainstream critics just don't appreciate the beauty/spirit of hardcore sci-fi movies (or the books they are based on) which I don't see many film makers out there can capture as precisely as Villeneuve. Though Dune has a more vivid plot than BR or Arrival based on what I have read so far, the film might still look very artistic in the hands of Villeneuve, which may not align with whatever definition of "popular film" category the Oscar established in attempt to draw more audience. I think the category is set up for Disney or Marvel films, not for hardcore sci-fi films which can never be truely popular or critically acclaimed anyway.
To put it more straightforwardly, if Dune turns out to be a brilliant film, which I'm very sanguine about, it probably still won't get nominated for best picture. If it gets nominated for achievement in popularity, it just means it underperforms in all of other important aspects. Either way I don't like it. I want Dune to get nominated for or even win best picture, not best achievement in popularity. It's the recoginition a good sci-fi film deserves.
Anyway I'm very happy about Timmy's choice of this important project, working with a great director and playing a promising role that will give full display to his extensive range of talent. Maybe that's enough for me.

I agree about wanting this movie to be good enough to be nominated for Best Picture, not Best Popular Film. I don't like the idea of awarding something just because it's popular. A movie needs to be good to win an Oscar and if a popular film is good enough to win an Oscar, then it can be nominated for Best Picture. Titanic, Avatar, Mad Max Fury Road did it. As for Dune in particular, I'm not sure a Best Popular Movie category would help it any, if we consider that Blade Runner 2049 didn't do so well at the Box Office. Dune might not be so popular with the general crown either.
