I was sent a link to an illegal downloading, but I didn't want to watch HSN that way. Since I'm not a DirecTV subscriber, I am more than happy to support this film at the theater on the weekend of July 27.

Hot Summer Nights had its premiere last night. The rest of the cast and the director were in attendance but of course no Timmy, since he's in Hungary filming.

Don't forget! Hot Summer Nights open this Friday, July 27th!! Here's a fair review of it from Entertainment Weekly. They gave it a C+ for the first time director's heavy use of clichés in this genre.

I read that it is now available also on iTunes and Amazon in the US.

Promo for the movie is in full force. A couple of articles/interviews:
Such typical Timmy, both of those descriptions

I'm going to see HSN on Saturday. There's only one theater in all of LA playing it, but that's ok.

Although this is a barely satisfactory attempt of a first-time director, I still appreciate Bynum for choosing Timmy over many other actors including more famous ones because he trusted his talent. I really don't get why he lost so many auditions for years because I think his performance is constantly excellent, judging from almost all his movies I can find. So glad he doesn't have to go through the drudgery anymore because everybody wants him in their movies now though it's both his talent and fame that they want.

Here's my brief review as posted at my Theatre of Zen blog:
It was not my intentions to watch this film when it was first announced that it would be released this summer. But as my interest in Timothée Chalamet developed, I wanted to see this film, especially after the trailer. It's a decent film, Timmy's character, Daniel Middleton is slightly underdeveloped for the turns that his character takes which would help us understand and justify his actions, but in all, it's a good film and Timmy showcases a talent that we have come to expect from him.

Apparently the movie didn't do well in its opening day. Which I kinda expected. I wonder what was the strategy in the way they released this? Did it make even sense to put in theatres 1 month after it became available on Directv and days after it landed on Amazon and iTunes? At this point, everybody and their mother have watched it already.

HSN was never, ever expected to be a box office success. It's in extremely limited release in select theaters weeks after it premiered on DirecTV and then on itunes. A lot of fans wanted to see it that don't have DirecTV, or an itunes account (who wants to watch a movie on their computer?), and they were hundreds if not thousands of miles away from the nearest city playing the film. So, no, this film made in 2015 was not going to be a box office success.

//SPOILERS//
i was disappointed to hear of the changes they made to the original screenplay, which made a lot more sense to me when i read it. basically the narrator was a younger daniel, at the end daniel runs from the hospital to mckayla's house and 'proclaims his love' and hunter is there and shoots him in the head and kills him. then there is a scene where hunter almost attempts suicide before throwing the gun into a lake and disappearing "never to be seen again" the ending is an older mckayla (who seems to be doing okay for herself financially and in life) finishing writing in a notebook which closes to reveal the title 'hot summer nights' [with mckayla narrating explaining she had written a book about what happened that summer] etc etc which i know is a massive cliche but it was nice to see her get what she deserved

But I for one am grateful for the screenplay change. It's sad that young people die, but I wouldn't have wanted to see Danny/Timmy shot dead just because of his love for a crazy guy's sister. Can you imagine the articles about HSN if Timmy's character got blown away like that? Yikes.

Hot Summer Nights is coming out on DVD on September 25th. I can't find the source where I read it, but it seems the special features are a featurette and an audio commentary with the director, a producer and Emery Coehn.

I love the poster for this movie, and after failing to secure it from the theater I saw it at, and A24 ignoring my request, I ordered this silk screen print of the poster on Ebay from China. After a month, it finally has arrived. It's lovely. I'll keep it tucked away until I move and get my own apartment, I need to properly frame this.
