Based on this above Luca is free to make an own movie being independent of the book. honestly I hope that's the case. Ruining the best cinematic dad with a straight marital betrayal doesn't sound like anything Luca was interested in doing (tbh, who the heck wants that?!). I hope he does his own series of sequels that visit Elio's life every 5-10 years, a la Antoine Doinel. The sequel should be him being a cute uni student at the sorbonne or something and not an established musician. Ugh.

Hmmm, a play to tie up loose ends properly instead of a film with Timmy and Armie? I'll take that.

André Aciman was here in Budapest at Margó Festival presenting his new book 'Find me'. Holy s**t, it was a mess. The organizer underestimated the number of fans who was attending at the event. The Festival itself was quite small even in Hungarian scale, and the place where it was held, was narrow and crowded. A lot of fans couldn't get in the auditorium where he presented the book, so neither did I Aciman was so kind to decide signing every fans' book who was standing in the queue. I was standing in front of the auditorium's door for circa 3 hours! The organizer gave us misinformation, no information… but never mind. I've got my books signed, it was so quick, I couldn't take a photo or have a word with the author. Here is facebook link for the presentation: Aciman in Budapest at MargóAnd here are my signed books: I can't turn the photos in this post, sorry.

I'm happy for you Teenca, and it says a lot about André and how he treats the fans. Too bad the promoter for the book tour gave out misinformation and overbooked (pardon the pun) the event. But in the end, Aciman hooked up all the fans.

Thank you, Simone I was happy to attend to the promotion and get the book, André was so nice to sign books for hours. Actually the event says a lot about the local fans too. Some of them arrived from hundreds of kms. The Festival had closed by the time we could get our books signed. I was at home by midnight. I'll write about the book soon (without spoilers).

Find me
Before reading Find me I thought that no books can be like CMBYN. None, never ever. There was a special, irreproducible, beautiful event written in that book. And even A. Aciman can’t repeat its magic and spirit. Actually no need for this, and Aciman had no intention of repeating it. And I was right. However it doesn’t mean that Find me is not a good book. I like it very much. My problem is the length of the book. Aciman divided into 3 parts the story like a musical composition, 3 movements and an ending (he said about the structure of the book). And every parts of the book is too short to represent the story of its characters: Sam, Elio and Oliver. As if Aciman only showed a little piece of his characters’ life. It’s fragmented and I miss some things from it (here would come spoilers…) Sam has the biggest part of it, nearly half of the book. I like Sam, but his story couldn’t grasp my interest deeply. It gets better and enjoyable when Elio appears in Sami’s story. And from that point the book is much better because we can read about Elio and after then Oliver. We know them and are interested in their life. I think this book is not for film material. Some parts of it is suitable for being parts of an upcoming film, but not collectively (as a whole).
I’ve read some interviews with A. Aciman, and I’m writing a summary of the important infos about Find me and CMBYN too.

Find Me sounds like a betrayal at many levels. There is plenty of room for Luca to improvise an alternative universe.
I certainly hope he's inspired by Truffaut.

Thanks for your views on Find Me Teenca. I have long suspected that Aciman was in a rush to conclude the story of Elio and Oliver, but he didn't have the motivation or interest to devote a whole entire book on their lives. So he pulls in daddy Perlman and give him 50% of the book. I believe he did this to throw a monkey wrench* into any plans for anyone to adapt 50% of Find Me into a new movie without taking great creative liberties into trying to make a movie. If by chance Find Me is adapted into a film, do any of you reading this really want to sit in a theater and watch Sam find new love during of half the movie, and have Elio come into the film halfway as an aside, and then meander into the life of Oliver and quickly wrap them up as being soul mates? No.
I have said all the long that I don't believe a CMBYN 2 should or could be made. The first book and film was magical and there are some magic tricks that just can't be repeated.
I still look forward to attending the book signing in two weeks and have both books in my collection, but I'm not upset in this development, it just confirms my deep seeded suspicions that there will not, and cannot be a follow up with CMBYN.
Operafan, if Andre "sold out", Find Me would solely focus on Elio and Oliver and possibly wrote a third book to keep the money flowing in and cash in on Timmy's new fame. What Andre has done here with Find Me is the opposite - he has taken the CMBYN storyline into a totally different tangent by focusing on Sam, and having Elio and Oliver play second fiddle. He has by design neutered Find Me so that it is a fragment of what is needed to adapt it into a movie that fans would want to see. I'm sorry, but hard core fans are going to have to write up their own fan fiction to fulfill their needs and interests.
* monkey wrench - An imaginary tool of sabotage, destruction, overthrow and mischief.

That is the sell out! He IS "cashing in" on the success of the film.

This is a book that didn't need to be written! We already have their 15th and 20th reunion in CMBYN. Most readers have already supplied their own denouement. Aciman's beautiful story "First Love" in Enigma Variations is IMHO his best take on father/son "parallel" relationships. What's hinted at in Sam's monologue to Elio is fully realized here. Sorry he didn't take the road less traveled in Find Me.
