I appreciate the information on the book series. I definitely want to check out other novels once I have completed the first one. It seems to me that the first book is the gold standard and that while subsequent books may be good or great none rises to the status of "Dune." Accurate? More or less. Once a literature professor I knew said that God Emperor of Dune was the best written book of the series. The advantage of the first book is to exist a film version of it, and a lot of people know about it because of the film and they don't care about the subsequent books/stories, or just don't want to read the subsequent books. So Dune has highlighted and nostalgic features, and I think the others have their own high standards especially the 2-4th books.

My interest in reading another book or two after Dune was to get a better understanding of the unfolding of the events foreseen in Paul's vision of a possible future. And especially the way Dune ended (excluding the Appendix), it begs you to continue on to read at least Book 2. So with that, I'm sure Messiah will be a quick read, and most likely, I'll go on to Book 3. I was tempted to buy Children of Dune today, but I didn't want to put the pressure on me so fast to read two books in the same vein. There is true crime novel that I'm anxious to read soon. That probably happen after I read Messiah.

No reason to hurry. I have half a dozen books in my desk, and have to finish my master degree in June. Therefore I'm unlikely to re-read Messiah before Summer, though I planned re-reading the entire series in the next year. It'll be a long mission.

I really love the books. I haven't read the rest by Brian Herbert and Kevin J Anderson though–a lot would argue that they aren't as good as FH's work but apparently just works if you want to dive more into the world.
Personally my top 3 from the 6 books are: 1. Dune 2. God Emperor of Dune 3. Dune Messiah

I've read Dune within the past year. I'm reading Dune Messiah right now (in between reading other books). I'll check out God Emperor of Dune eventually. Thanks.

The books of BH and KJA are not as good as FH's. They're different, have another kind of style. However they are absolutely enjoyable and read well. Moreover, FH's original six books don't have an ending (he died before) BH and KJA completed the story of Dune's World. They are worth reading. Actually not every book needs to be a masterpiece.

If you haven't read Dune yet, now is an excellent time to start, especially if you're homebound these days.

I'll be posting the link to the entire weekly series of Nerdist book club discussion of Dune. Check out the video from May 6th. I participated in the live chat, and even got a shout out by Nerdist in the chat. It was a lot of fun.

If you haven't read Dune would you read it if you had this Deluxe Edition of Dune? It's beautiful!
