He's only 6 years younger than you lysariskye? You like him because he's a talented actor. I'm almost 30 years older than him, I look at him like a nephew and I just adore him. I'm so happy for his success. You don't have to be a certain age to like people for their talent.

Simone, thanks for sharing your experience and answering my questions. I would have definitely tried to attend if I lived in the area. I just need to wait for a good opportunity to travel on a plane if need be. But glad you had fun. What a cool memory to see the movie in the same room as the starring actor! I am not afraid to disagree with you on a subject as long as we do so respectfully. In this case though, I am disappointed as well and would have nominated at least for the short list one of the Wonka songs. Am I really all that surprised though? I love the Oscars and have been watching them for over 25 years since I was a kid. But let's face it. The Oscars are a largely pretentious awards ceremony that more and more Americans ignore. And certain films, especially popular wholesome family ones, just do not receive nominations these days. I think Wonka would have had better odds during the 90s and before. The Academys sensibilities do not always align with popular opinion. There is one thing I would change about the Oscars to give more movies an equal shot to win. The same movie shouldn't be nominated two or three times in the same category in my opinion. I think such multiple nominations are unfair to other films and limit the audience of the Oscars some years. You need a broader spectrum of movies at the Oscars. And that's just it Anthony, I had to take advantage of watching Wonka with Timmy in the audience. Hearing the same cheers, laughs, and gasps together with him. It's a real treat to be able to do something like the is, and I'm glad I did it. The Oscars are fucked, it's all rigged. Billie Elish will win a second Oscar in two years. the first was for James Bond in 2021. Just unbelievable. I think the BAFTAs may show some love for Wonka. And the Golden Globes will go down as the only American awards body to recognize Wonka for something. The Baftas may show love to Wonka. As the movie is being so well received over there. It is a shame the Oscars will not recognize and such a missed opportunity for Timmy not to perform as it would definitely have been a highlight. Nothing against Barbie but one of those songs could have been left off. They move the goalposts when they feel like it.

I have already moved on from the Oscars and am now focused on BAFTA. The lack of a Best Song shortlist for Wonka tells me everything I need to know about the final Oscar nominations in January. Wonka will most like not even receive any nominations... zero, not allowing it even bragging rights for Song or costume, let alone for Timmy. I'm sick of this shit. So we'll see how much BAFTA will love the British production of Wonka.
Meanwhile, Wonka's consolation prize is its box office performance.

I am a big fan of Patrick Stewart and Helen Mirren and they are 40 years older than me. I am a decade older than Timothee so I think we are close to contemporaries. I think you can be fans of anyone at any age. And even friends too ... I have friends in their 20s and some friends in their 60s and 70s. I mean Simone is just ancient due to the age gap with Timothee ... I KID I KID!
I want to make one point about awards programs in general. While it is always cool to have my favorite movies, television shows, and stars nominated, I never let a lack of awards detract me from liking something or someone. Awards are great at highlighting certain performances and films that maybe the general public overlooks. But they in no way are the final say of quality and taste. One of history's greatest directors Alfred Hitchcock never won a single Oscar, for example.

I knew Timmy worked very hard to prep for Wonka, the hardest he's ever worked on a film. So the deets about his dance prep is very interesting. I highlighted the quote from the choreographer as it's quite funny.

Why not add another collectible to my growing Timmy Wonka collection. Besides, I like tangible copies of CDs.

In today's Scott Mendelson email subscription box office report, he provides insight into the Wonka Weekend #2 at the US box office, and it's looking very good. Pay attention to the area I highlighted as it was a meme this past week on TwitterX from people upset that Wonka has been correctly boasted as a success, while The Marvels (a film I enjoyed) was considered a bomb when it earned a little more than what Wonka did when it opened over a month ago.

I read Scott Mendelson too. Even when we disagree, his points are often solid and well researched. And I am a big Marvel fan. But another reason why I get annoyed at Twitter is some people are just misinformed idiots. It's all about budget. Wonka was half the budget of The Marvels and is making more money over the holiday break. Of course, Wonka is thus profitable and a hit. The Marvels cost way too much money to make and had virtually no promotion campaign due to the strikes. Alas, there is some superhero fatigue as well. But Wonka is a bona-fide success by any measure. I'm so happy for Timothee. I can't wait to buy the movie on bluray or steelbook!

Timothée must be so relieved and happy that Wonka is doing so well world-wide.

This is the goddamn truth!!!! This was a deliberate exclusion from the Academy in favor of Barbie's 3 songs, two of which are childish and silly, and The Color Purple which came out 10 days after Wonka, but yet makes the cut. I'm sick of the unfair games of screwing out rightful nominees to help preferred nominees.

Wonka should hit $300 million worldwide by tomorrow, definitely this weekend it will pass that amount. I'm so happy for Timothée. What a way to end this crazy year, and to celebrate his birthday.
