Does anyone know when The King will be on Netflix? Everytime I check all it says is coming 2019. I'm getting impatient.😂 Thank you!

Hi Mvan1, and welcome to CC!
I was just tweeting my concern about the absolutely black-out information on The King. The only thing we know for certain is that it will be released later this year. But I'm starting to suspect that it won't be at any of the fall festivals, and will probably be in theaters some time in November for a short run for Oscar qualification, and be on Netflix in December.

There are definite issues, which we all kinda got the feeling with hearing NOTHING about it since filming wrapped up last August. On Twitter, I saw below. So that is definitely worrisome. I am starting to wonder if it will even be out in 2019 or they push it back to 2020. I would rather have them fix the issues (the best they can) than release a bad or very faulty movie. Guess we will see.
Person I was talking to on Twitter said: "Yes unfortunately there are massive problems. Timothee got the accent right and by all accounts turns in a good performance but the supporting cast performances and the action scenes are hugely problematic."

Well someone told me that the person who made that Twitter comment is not reliable. So guess we'll just have to wait for the eventual stills/trailer/release date!

Still no news on The King, let alone an official release date. We know it'll be later this year, but when, is the question. With the Oscar season pushed up a whole 3 weeks, any serious Oscar contender need to have their films out and playing in theaters no later than mid-November. It's going to be especially cut throat this year. But here's another Oscar contender anticipation for Timmy thus far.

Thank you for the info. I think Timmy is considered as an Oscar contender automatically.

Why the obsession with Oscar buzz? I'd like to see the film sooner rather than later. There are several fine actors in it, and I'm curious about the adaptation. The Producer's Guild seems to have a political strangle-hold on who gets nominated for and who wins Oscars. Each year it becomes more cringe worthy!

The Producer's Guild seems to have a political strangle-hold on who gets nominated for and who wins Oscars. Each year it becomes more cringe worthy! It's not so much an obsession, it's just the fact that Timothée is an Oscar caliber actor and so far, several places at least have him on their radar to give a performance worthy of consideration. If his performance doesn't manifest a nomination, that's ok, but I think it's worth highlighting that reputable media sources are looking forward to his performance. I'd rather him be thought of being considered, than not be on anyone's mind at all. All the guilds have a financial and political strangle-hold on who gets nominated and wins. This has been proven quite clearly to me in the last two Oscar seasons. It's a travesty.

How would you define "Oscar caliber performance"? The gold on Oscar was always suspect, but now it's truly tarnished. Outside of Hollywood, nobody really cares. George C. Scott had the right idea!!!

Yes, the Oscar is tarnished, but Hollywood will continue to spend tens of millions of dollars chasing it. People in the real world don't give a damn about it... and that's why they are not the Hollywood elite and those who otherwise still love the industry... like me.
I love and hate the Oscars and the awards race, but with that said, I will support with complete zeal for Timmy to be recognized by the Big Ones, some day.

I wonder how they determine who to put on these lists? We know nothing about The King, just who is in it and a bit of a summary. I wonder if they are just naming Timmy because of the caliber actor he is, with his performances in CMBYN and BB? I would imagine that is probably it, since no one has seen it yet (besides those involved in the movie/the studio). I think it is a bit early yet, until we get at least a trailer but of course, would love for it to be a great movie and his performance to be recognized.

Tracy, like I mentioned previously, Timmy has proven himself a great young actor, and people are simply anticipating yet another great performance and they just have him on their radar, sight unseen. Once they see the movie, they will either keep him on their consideration list, or remove him if he's good, but not Oscar level great. Also, there are at least 40 other performances of actors, Lead and Supporting, that people aren't even talking about yet, so it says a lot about the respect people have to Timmy to have him on their list months before anyone has even seen a trailer for The King.
